Dr. Rathjen recently retired from Primary Care Internal Medicine after 34 years in Pleasanton! She was the first woman physician in private practice in Primary Care Medicine in Pleasanton.

Dr. Rathjen continues to treat patients with Anxiety and Depression and Life Transitions with counseling and guided imagery. She is experienced with prescribing medications and they are available if desired.
Examples of life transitions are divorce, loss of a loved one, grief, aging, illness, and others.

Dr. Rathjen continues to do Medical Counseling , which consists of helping to guide her patient though an illness, both in terms of the most current medical advice and also finding the best medical experts. In addition, she teaches coping skills for stress reduction and is her patient's advocate every step of the way.

She has been doing Therapy Counseling and Medical Counseling for more than 30 years as part of her Primary Care Medicine Practice. These are both a continuation of her Medical Practice, just without the Primary Care of annuals and urgent illness appointments.

During the COVID outbreak, she is offering Therapy Counseling and Medical Counseling via a secure HIPAA-compliant Video Chat on the UpDox platform. She thinks that for the present, it is safer to continue with Video Chats.

Most of her patients have found her by word of mouth. She is kind and understanding and very skilled at diagnosing complex medical problems and helping her patients cope. She works hard to find answers for each person.

Office System:  Dr. Rathjen charges per hour, please call her for details. She does not bill insurance and she is not a preferred provider on any insurance plan, and she is not enrolled in Medicare or Medi-Cal.  She gives each patient a specialized form with all of the codes and diagnoses, so each patient can submit it to their own insurance. She asks for payment at the time of the visit.
(Please check with your own insurance company to find out about reimbursement.)
